Very pleased with the work the ABP team , led by Kevin did on our small semi. An RSJ was installed after load bearing wall removed, together with removing a rear door and bricking up the opening. Two lintels also installed. I was expecting a lot of disruption to the adjoining room where one end of the rsj was supported, but Kevin and his team minimised this to a small patch on the very upper part of the wall , with none on the adjoining ceiling. If you need any RSJ’s installed – can recommend the ABP team.

These guys were great to work with. It was a bit hard for us as we are currently in another city whilst renovating our house, however these guys were so understanding and nothing was too much bother. We had two walls knocked through and it was all completed within a week, from setting up, cleaning up and sorting everything through building control which was helpful as we would not have a clue. Not only the structural work that the team have done on the house was of high standard, but was also great to have them around. We have had a lintel replaced above a downstairs window by ABP. We contacted Affordable Building Projects knowing they were based in Liverpool and expecting an unable to do response. What a pleasant surprise Kirk contacted us immediately and within a couple of hours the contract for the work was placed. No mention of current difficulties or that we were in South Manchester. ABP removed our downstairs chimney breast. Also, our lounge extension had wall supports plus a beam along the ceiling which made it look like it was separated from the main room. The company removed these and put the appropriate supports for the back wall of the house above in the walls and ceiling so we now have a real, spacious through lounge. From start to finish the job was done very professionally and efficient: initial site visit, detailed estimate, visit by the structural surveyor so he could do his drawings and calculations to submit to Building Control, visit by the foreman before starting the actual job. The work was carried out and finished to a high standard while we were being kept well informed. They were very tidy, cleaning up at the end of each day. We are very pleased with everything and have already recommended them to friends.

We had a load bearing wall knock through, 2 fire places opened to the original lintel and a bricked in 1930’s Yorkist oven removed to open up the chimney to its original lintel. The communication with the team was speedy and didn’t require any chasing from us, making the project really easy to coordinate with our other work. The job was done in 2 days and the lads checked the progress with me throughout to ensure I was happy and that there was no miscommunication. Building inspection and skips were smoothly organised and team ensured they were tidy throughout the job. Care was also taken not to damage original victorian features. The lads on the job worked hard, so much so that I didn’t even notice if they stopped for lunch!

I am very satisfied with by the structural building work the Affordable Building Projects team carried out. I booked a visit online, Kirk arrived on the day and time agreed, I found it very easy to discuss the project with him and agree the scope. Later that same day he sent me a written and detailed quote. After confirming that I wanted them to go ahead Kirk came back to take precise measurements and once I paid the 25% deposit within a week they came to do the work. They were competent and clearly committed to do a good job. So yes I am glad to have entrusted ABP with my work and will call on them again.

I engaged Affordable Building Projects to carry out a very tricky structural alteration Barn Conversion Project in Prescot Lancashire which will be my future home. The job involved the threading of a 3.6m long structural steel beam through internal multiple rooms and the cutting out of the internal ‘skin’ of an existing 9″ wall to conserve and support the external sandstone lintels on the ‘toe’ of the beam. There were two other 3.1m long UBs to fit in very tight internal spaces. I have been involved as a QS in the execution of hundreds of commercial construction contracts over the last 30 years and am aware of the technical difficulty and skill required for this particularly difficult type of work. I must compliment Kirk Smith and his lads on a superb job to a first class finish, the Architect and Structural Engineer are similarly impressed as is the Building Inspector. The quoted price was competitive and the the execution was faultless. 100% recommended.

Affordable Building Projects did the conversion of our integral garage into a new family room + a utility room extension, and did a brilliant job fitting the new floor, insulating the walls and providing power and light sockets, extending the central heating into the new space, installing double-glazed windows/door, and fitting very nice vinyl tiling in the utility extension. They also created a new base for our tall fridge and moved it into in the kitchen, and replaced various kitchen units, and fitted the attic with mesh under the eaves to keep wildlife out. The whole project was done quickly and competently, the team was friendly, a formal completion certificate was provided, and the overall price was very reasonable indeed. Kirk came to assess the work and assured me that removal of offending brickwork and replacing lintels would solve the problem, and the work would take about 2-3 days. If you’re looking for a team of builders who competent, professional and courteous then look no further. I was skeptical at first with getting builders in after hearing all the horror stories about cowboys etc. I had few local firms around to give me quotes on a wall knock-through, a damp proof course and floor laying and none of them filled me with any confidence. I then had Kirk around to give me a quote and I received a full detailed quote , breaking down what work would be carried out, fully costed with UK. Also offered kind advice on the options I was considering with the work. I agreed and Kirk and the team arrived exactly when they said they would (in fact 15 minutes early!). Totally professional and I left them to get on with the job. They finished on time (not like some other firms who will turn up in fits and spurts, disappear and complete jobs whenever they can be bothered). They were also very accommodating with last minute adjustments to the job spec without any issues or delays, adjustments which I myself made mid-way through the job. The best part is the actual the quality of the work. All the plaster was finished to a very high standard and the flooring was just as impressive.
