Why Would You Need Door or Window Lintel Relacement ?

Lintels are essentially there to bridge a gap and provide support for any load that is above them. This is more commonly found is say for example, above a doorway or above a window. To allow the opening below and still continue with the brickwork above, it is necessary to fit a lintel.

This might be a steel lintel or a concrete lintel. In older properties and before many of todays modern standards, it was quite common to fit timber lintels which will still be in place today of we were to open a structure to expose them.

Timber lintels posed a problem and to be unsuitable due to a number of factors; They were a fire hazard, they were susceptible to rot, they would shrink and contract causing settlement and also not as strong as alternatives now available. Many lintels we replace are the older timber lintels but we still do replace or repair concrete and steel lintels as well.

Perhaps the wrong lintel may have been used to support the load above, or maybe there has been some corrosion or other damage caused to the lintel. Whichever the case, if it is in need of repair or replacement, then it has to be done to prevent any further structural damage to the building.
